Trans-National Access
Trans-National Access and National Open Access (TNA/NOA) programmes are initiatives designed to support scientists by providing free access to research infrastructures , including facilities, equipment, expertise, services, and resources that may not normally be available to them. Within the framework of WP5 of the SUS-MIRRI.IT project, a comprehensive protocol has been developed to coordinate and manage the services and procedures required to implement TNA and NOA activities across five research facilities in Italy.
The first call for Trans-National Access and National Open Access (TNA/NOA) was launched in December 2024 and closed at the end of January 2025 ( more information). Access through the TNA/NOA programme was provided free of charge and included technical and scientific support, administrative and logistical support, and hands-on training.
Results of the first call
- In total, nine in-person TNA activities, two in-person NOA activities, and one remote NOA activity were carried out across the five participating partner institutions. Participants included three senior researchers, seven researchers or postdoctoral fellows, and two PhD students, coming from Italy, Egypt, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Norway, Algeria, Germany, India, and Spain.
- The average duration of stay at the host institutions for in-person access was 22 days.
- A satisfaction questionnaire was distributed to all participants. Analysis of the responses indicates a very high level of user satisfaction with the TNA/NOA programme. All respondents provided positive feedback across the main aspects evaluated, including the clarity of the application process and the overall quality of the experience.
- Overall, the results highlight a programme that is highly valued, well-organized, and effective in meeting the professional needs of its users. As no major issues were identified, the current model appears to be functioning very well. Future improvements could focus on expanding networking opportunities and strengthening communication activities in order to further increase the visibility of the programme.
