MC-DiSVA (DiSVA Microbial Collection) at the Polytechnic University of Marche was created as an open resource for the academic community, research institutions, and industry, providing continuous access to our microbial catalog. Currently, MC-DiSVA manages a diverse collection of over 1500 microbial strains,  mainly yeasts of food, environmental, and industrial origin.

A significant core of the collection is dedicated to food-interest yeasts, with a specialized focus on wine production and the broader fermented food and beverage sectors. MC-DiSVA preserves an extensive library of indigenous yeasts, safeguarding the microbial biodiversity of the Marche region and offering unique tools for the characterization and enhancement of local products.

Our mission goes beyond conservation: we leverage the specialized skills of our staff to unlock the biotechnological potential of these resources. In addition to characterizing and maintaining our internal library, MC-DiSVA provides high-level support and professional services to external partners:

  • Isolation and purification of microbial strains
  • Identification using advanced molecular techniques
  • Physiological characterization and performance analysis

Thanks to a long tradition of industrial collaboration, we bridge the gap between academic research and practical applications, fostering innovation in multiple sectors.

Key people: MC-DiSVA (Microbial collection of DiSVA)  consists of the section of the Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Microbiology section, Prof. Maurizio Ciani and Prof. Francesca Comitini.
